I haven't tried it personally, but I know the alternatives are iffy at best. Honestly I think CrossOver is your best bet. Enjoyable? They on minimum settings, in a small window, and get 30 FPS max. Run it On Mac recommends Parallels as the 1 best way to run Risk of Rain 2 on your Mac desktop or laptop. It's expensive, but probably works according to CrossOver’s maker’s own tests on it.
